Jon Ben Snow Foundation Awards a Grant to SSF:
Ten Students Sought for Summer Shakespeare Theatre Camp Program

The Syracuse Shakespeare Festival is proud to announce it has received a grant to run a summer theatre camp program during one week in August entitled, “Kids Doing Shakespeare.” (KIDS)  With money from the Jon Ben Snow Foundation, this pilot project is designed to co mb ine the interests and skills of students, 5th grade through 12th grade, from Syracuse and the surrounding suburbs, in producing a scene from this summer’s main stage, Shakespeare-in-the-Park  show, The Taming of the Shrew.

The theatre camp program will run daily, 10 am-3 pm , from August 7h thru August 11th  at Thornden Park ’s Carriage House.  Only ten (10) openings are available for this exciting program, which will focus on speaking skills, stage techniques, costume design/ construction and English country-dance.  All students will perform the chosen scene, as a culminating activity, on Fri., 8/11 @ 2 pm as well as participate in the main stage show on opening night, Thursday 8/10, 5:30 p.m., as English country dancers.  

There will be a nominal fee of $25 for snacks and supplies payable as a reservation for a place in the class.  Fees will be waived at the discretion of the SSF Board of Directors.  All participants must bring their own lunch and provide their own transportation.

Students are asked to contact SSF as soon as possible.
